Postgraduate & PhD Application Mentoring

Independent one-to-one support to help you develop a strong postgraduate or PhD application in your own voice.

Applying for postgraduate study can feel quite daunting, particularly when you're trying to turn an idea, your previous experience or your creative practice into a clear application or research proposal.

I offer individual mentoring for Master's and PhD applicants, including international applicants applying to UK universities. We'll work together to clarify your ideas, understand what universities are looking for and identify the strongest way to communicate your academic, professional or creative experience.

My role isn't to write your application for you. It's to help you develop the thinking, confidence and clarity to produce a strong application that remains your own.

A Specialist Approach to Postgraduate Applications

Support that understands academic and creative research

Postgraduate applications aren't all the same. A conventional research proposal, a practice-based PhD and an application to a creative Master's programme can require very different ways of communicating your ideas and experience.

My background spans academic research, higher education and creative practice, including media, digital and immersive work. This means I can support applicants developing more conventional academic research as well as those trying to articulate creative or practice-based work within an academic context.

For creative and practice-based applicants, we can work on:

  • articulating your creative practice as research

  • connecting your practice to relevant theory and research

  • developing research questions from creative work

  • explaining methodology and the role of practice

  • communicating the potential contribution of your research

  • presenting portfolios and creative experience appropriately

  • identifying programmes and potential supervisors aligned with your proposed research

Applying to a UK University from Overseas

Applying to a UK university from another country can involve unfamiliar terminology, expectations and application processes. I can help you understand what UK universities are asking for and how to communicate your existing qualifications, experience and research interests clearly.

My support focuses on the academic application and doesn't include admissions or visa advice. I'll always encourage you to check formal entry, funding and immigration requirements directly with the university or relevant official sources.

Ready to Talk About Your Application?

You don't need to have everything worked out before getting in touch.

Tell me a little about where you are in your application, what you're hoping to study and what you'd like some support with. If you already have a draft proposal or application, you can let me know that too.

I'll suggest the option that I think would be most useful for you.
